Wastewater Plant Manager Position Employment Opportunity

The Russell County Public Service Authority is seeking to hire a full-time or part-time qualified applicant for a Wastewater Plant Manager. The successful candidate will perform intermediate technical work in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant; perform advanced chemical and bacteriological tests; prepare and maintain records on plant operations to include DEQ and EPA reports. Candidate must have thorough knowledge of operating characteristics and maintenance requirements of a wastewater treatment plant; thorough knowledge of hydraulic, chemical and mechanical principals pertinent to wastewater treatment plant operations; thorough knowledge of occupational hazards of the work and necessary safety precautions; ability to detect flaws in the operation of mechanical equipment and to determine proper remedial measures; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to read meters and charts accurately and to maintain records or shift operations; and some skill in the use of hand tools.

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, extensive experience in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant, and possession of at least a Class III Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia required.

LABORERS

The Russell County Public Service Authority is seeking to hire (4) part-time laborers. The successful candidates will be required to:

  • Work on water crew learning to perform manual labor in installing, repairing and maintaining water lines, valves, meters, pumps and water taps
  • Work on sewer crew learning to perform manual labor in installing, repairing and maintaining sewer lines, force mains, lift stations and manholes
  • Dig holes and ditches with shovel and other hand tools
  • Clean and maintain tools, sampling equipment and lab equipment
  • Responsible for keeping site and grounds at plants clean and neat
  • Perform daily equipment checks
  • Pick up necessary supplies and tools from warehouse or vendors as directed
  • Respond to emergency calls at all hours
  • Perform work safely in accordance with departmental safety procedures and operate equipment safely
  • Flag traffic
  • Perform other related and non-related duties as assigned
